The Sistema in Norwich concert is part of the inaugural Young Norfolk Arts Festival 2013, a celebration that sets out to give young people in Norfolk the opportunity to take part in a range of artistic and cultural activities and the first of many future festivals to showcase work produced for and by young people in Norfolk.
Highlights include:
Norfolk & Norwich Festival Bridge, which is funded by Arts Council England to connect children and young people with art and culture, is supporting the venture.

This concert is part of the new Young Norfolk Arts Festival 28 June-7th July - other events listed on a website here and a great opportunity to see the Sistema in Norwich Martineau Orchestra playing live.
It also a world first! At 7.30pm on Friday 5 July in Norwich, two Sistema orchestras will perform simultaneously through a live web stream. Using state-of-the-art facilities at Epic Studios, the Sistema Norwich Martineau Orchestra will perform alongside children from Liverpool (over an internet link) and Lambeth. The programme includes pieces to commemorate Benjamin Britten’s centenary year. The Martineau Orchestra will be joined by a Quartet from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. This is a concert not to miss!

Sistema in Norwich is an independent programme inspired by the Venezuelan El Sistema approach, changing lives through music. Sistema in Norwich is a social change music education programme run by Norwich & Norfolk Community Arts

Sarah Oliver cello – BBC Young Musician of the Year Sting Finalist 2006, and winner of the Walter Todds Bursary (for most promising performer not to reach the final)
Following the withdrawal of Bjorn Kleiman (violin) and Karin Norlen (viola) we are delighted to announce that Sarah Oliver will perform a solo cello recital. Sarah studied at The Purcell School of Music, The Guildhall School of Music & Drama and is now working for a Masters Degree in Cello Performance at The Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance under the tutelage of renowned cellist Natalie Klein. Sarah has performed at such prestigious London venues as the Purcell Room, St John’s Smith Square, Royal Festival Hall, Barbican and Wigmore Hall.

Ted Ellis Trust at Wheatfen
Last weekend it was Swallowtail butterflies to spot at Wheatfen, this Sunday (23 June ) 1 pm – 4pm it's Children’s Fun Afternoon at the Ted Ellis Trust Nature Reserve!
This year’s theme is mini-beasts! Learn how to hunt for mini-beasts in woods & water; make your own mini-beast hunting equipment and take amazing pictures of tiny things. You can also make your own mini-beast animation, have your face painted & enjoy some light refreshments.
At the Plantation Gardens in Earlham Road
The Glorious Gardens weekend takes place this weekend on 22nd and 23rd June in aid of the Plantation Garden Preservation Trust. The event is sponsored by Arnolds/Keys and supported by Notcutts and The Living Rooms.
The Plantation Garden and 24 private and community gardens in the Golden Triangle are opening their gates to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. Most of the gardens are in the area bounded by Earlham Road, Unthank Road and College Road, making it possible to walk or cycle around them all in a day.
As part of the Glorious Gardens weekend we are also holding an Art Exhibition in the Chapel at 64 Park Lane on the Saturday and Sunday, from 10 am to 4 pm. Work on show and for sale is mainly by well-known members of the 20 Group and artists associated with the Norfolk Contemporary Art Society, and much of it has a distinctively ‘Norfolk Garden’ leaning. It will also include some interesting contemporary and retro jewellery. All the participating artists have donated a piece of work to an auction which will take place in the Plantation Garden on the Sunday at 4.30 p.m. conducted by Arnolds/Keys auctioneer, Roy Murphy.
Over the weekend there is a full programme of music taking place in the Plantation Garden with a wide range of talented local musicians, including a Sistema in Norwich orchestra on Saturday 22nd, playing a varied selection of largely acoustic music from around the world: singing groups, folk groups, brass, wind, strings, morris dancers, circle dancers – something for everyone.
We are also holding a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
Refreshments will be available in the Plantation Garden on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and there will also be the opportunity to buy gifts, souvenirs and plants.
Entry to the gardens and art exhibition will be by brochure at a cost of £5 per person for the weekend (under 16s free). Brochures will be available at the Plantation Garden from 10 a.m. on Saturday 22nd June.

New book for Norwich
Next week June 27th 6.30pm The Galley Beggar Press, a local publisher will be launching a new book at The Book Hive in London Street by Eimear McBride ' A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing '
Eimear moved to Norwich a couple of years ago from Ireland and it is exciting to see this new title by Galley Beggar Press who last year published The White Goddess by Simon Gough which has proved a great success. Eimear will be signing copies of the book at the launch.

The Sistema in Norwich concert is part of the inaugural Young Norfolk Arts Festival 2013, a celebration that sets out to give young people in Norfolk the opportunity to take part in a range of artistic and cultural activities and the first of many future festivals to showcase work produced for and by young people in Norfolk.

- a concert by music group Sistema in Norwich
- concert of the County Youth Orchestra and other events from the County Music Service;
- a Shakespeare play in Norwich Cathedral Cloisters and a late night service in the Cathedral;
- a joint art exhibition between the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and various primary and secondary schools from around the county;
- free performances and taster events at The Garage;
- a live showcase for young bands from Norwich Sound & Vision;
- the second Norfolk Children’s Book Festival for over 500 children from around the county, organised through a collaboration between Norwich School and Writers’ Centre Norwich;
- the opportunity to use Norwich Puppet Theatre as a fringe performance space
