A glittering occasion – everyone certainly scrubbed up well – with fizzy sponsored by Adnams, white tablecloths and bright lights, the evening certainly looked the part. The guest of honour was Liz Calder, founder of Bloomsbury Press, who now lives in Suffolk and it was she that opened all the envelopes. There were lots of smiles and valiantly disappointed faces as each award was announced but the crowd went wild when the Masterpieces book was announced as overall winner, partly, maybe, because we all have a little bit invested in it, as people who live in East Anglia.
