IXIA Public Art Survey
ixia has launched its third annual survey into public art. They are asking you to provide them with your answers to a set of questions about public art - and are seeking your responses now - whether you are based in the UKor internationally. The survey investigates:
Last year’s survey showed an active and core public art sector of at least 1,000 people working within a market valued at least £53m in England alone. Whilst this was a fall of 6% on the previous year, it still represented an employment market of around £17m for artists and arts workers. With the development sector showing signs of recovery over the last 12 months, and new planning policies and guidance actively promoting cultural well-being and public art, will this year’s survey identify an increase in the size and value of the public art sector? Are there any new funding models emerging?
They are interested in your views and experiences, whether you are directly involved with, used to be involved with, or simply have an interest in public art. The survey will take between 3 to 15 minutes to complete, depending on the extent of your involvement with public art. The survey is confidential and only aggregated data will be published. All subscribers to ixia/Public Art Online’s e-list will receive a summary of the survey's findings at the same time as the media. To complete the survey please click here.

Norwich Puppet Theatre is a much-loved and very active small arts charity with more than 30 years of track record in providing excellence in puppet theatre performances and education for audiences of all ages.
Our strategy is to develop our unique cultural venue in St James', Whitefriars, Norwich into a centre of excellence in puppet theatre, one of only two such dedicated facilities inEngland.
As a charity, oversight of our professional artistic management team is by a Board of Trustees, and we have a vacancy for a qualified accountancy professional wishing to serve as a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer.
The role would be filled in an entirely voluntary basis. The person appointed would have responsibility to provide strategic rather than hands on oversight of the work of the staff who undertake the bookkeeping and financial processes of the business.
The role would include additionally leading the Board's Finance sub-committee, and help the Board in its assessment of the company's financial health and planning. The Treasurer would have a key role to play in providing the Board with a financial perspective on strategic priorities and business plans.
The commitment we would be looking for is to attend 4 full Board meetings per year, plus a further 4 Finance sub-committee meetings each year, to be arranged around the Treasurer's convenience. The normal period of service before our rotation rules take effect is three years after an initial period of mutual trial. The initial three-year period can be and often is extended with approval at the AGM and the continued enthusiasm of the trustee!
Trustees are of course unpaid but the benefits are substantial in terms of community engagement, new networks and friendships, and the chance to develop leadership and governance skills. The Company does of course reimburse appropriate necessary expenses.
Whilst arts experience is not a requirement, an enthusiasm or potential passion for an active small arts enterprise is a great advantage!

IXIA Public Art Survey
ixia has launched its third annual survey into public art. They are asking you to provide them with your answers to a set of questions about public art - and are seeking your responses now - whether you are based in the UKor internationally. The survey investigates:
- The range of individuals and organisations who are engaged with public art;
- How public art is funded;
- Where public art is happening; and
- Why individuals and organisations value public art.

The experimental weekend will unpick ideas surrounding ‘masterpiece’ whilst investigating combinations of materials and tensions between media, thinking outside traditional practices and pushing conventional ideas of textiles, sculpture and craft.
The third Celebrity Makers: Masterclass on 8-9 February with Tracey Rowledge looks at bookbinding as a creative medium making two non-adhesive paper-covered book structures. Iain Halket, 23–24 November

This Masterclass will acquaint participants with a range of costume and textile techniques for puppetry. Everyone will start by creating a simple glove/rod puppet on which they will work over the weekend. Techniques which will be looked at include basic pattern cutting, print, stencil and appliqué. These will be utilised to create depth and pattern which you will develop into a finished costume for your puppet.
Iain is the Artistic Director and main performer of Folding Theatre Puppet Company. He has worked extensively within theatre for the past 30 years as a set and costume designer, prop maker, production manager and performer. He has designed many costumes for NPT’s own productions.

The Power of the Puppet
Neville Tranter, 6–8 February, £125
Participants will be guided to explore the potential of puppetry to create powerful and unique theatrical languages. There will be a strong emphasis on the role of the puppeteer as a performing actor. A puppeteer never disappears behind a puppet. The puppeteer’s presence on stage is an integral element of any performance and central to the audience’s theatrical experience.
Each participant will work with a puppet and bring it to ‘life’. Short scenes will be developed, within which the puppet and its manipulator articulate and respond to dramatic situations. As well as interacting with their own puppets, participants will also work together, creating and performing short dramatic scenes.
Over the past 30 years Neville Tranter’s combination of wicked, down to earth humour, deadly seriousness and virtuoso puppetry has won him international acclaim throughout the world. The Masterclass will finish at 4pm on 7 February as Neville is performing Punch & Judy in Afghanistan at 8.30pm as part of manipulate Visual Theatre Festival.

Volunteering Opportunities
Norwich Puppet Theatre - Trustee/Treasurer
As an exciting, ambitious and much loved small arts charity, we have a vacancy for a retired or currently employed qualified accountancy professional wishing to serve as a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer.
For more information about Norwich Puppet Theatre can be found on-line at http://www.puppettheatre.co.uk/ and via the Charities Commission websitehttp://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/find-charities/ using our Charity Number 271041.
