Pre-School Workshop
An opportunity for some hands-on creativity for the younger children without the need to clear up the mess afterwards! Parent (or grandparent etc.) and child work together in a session led by our experienced workshop leader using a vast array of materials with a puppet to take home afterwards and the price includes a cuppa for the grown-up!
Price: £7.80 for the child - no cost to the adult.

MagiMation – film-making Workshop - NPT and UniQPictures
Working with Tim Edwards - master of animation - you will create a short film.
During the two day workshop, you will write a script, plan the scenes, create characters from modelling material and then animate them, film their movements and record the sound track. Tim will then edit all the material you have created and send you an email with a link to your film for you to download and keep. The resulting films may also appear on the Big Screen at Chapelfield! This is a fabulous opportunity for budding film-makers/animators, so book early to ensure a (limited) place.

Færies and Monsters Workshop
Create a puppet based on a dainty, sylphlike færy or a fear-inducing Monster...the design is up to you. It can be as realistic as you can make it or as fantastical as your imagination!
All the materials are provided in this 90 minute session and at the end of it you will have a puppet to take home.

Family Puppet-making Workshop
Our family workshops offer an opportunity for families, parents/guardians and children to work together and make puppets. You can either make a puppet together or each create a character to make a play with when you get home.
There is a wide range of materials to choose from as you create the characters of your choice.

This marionette - or string-operated puppet - has the theme of a bird.
It can be as naturalistic or fantastical as you want it to be, the only fixed thing is the strings. There is scope to create wings, fashionable claws, extravagant plumage like a bird of paradise, or a red breast like a robin. Time and your imagination are the only limits to what you create.
There is a wide range of materials to choose from as you create the bird of your choice.

SESSION ONE: Introduction to puppetry
Explore different styles of puppet (Rod, Glove and shadow puppets) with a professional from NPT.
SESSION TWO: Making session - part 1
The session will focus on designing and making a puppet based on one of the puppet styles explored in the previous session.
NPT’s making workshops entail 2 stages:
Stage 1 Participants learn step-by-step making methods and creative skills to create the basic ‘skeleton’ of the puppet.
Stage 2 Full creative control is handed over and participants freely decorate and costume puppets to create unique characters.
Participants will work on character development and show the whole group their finished puppet at end of session.
SESSION THREE: Making session part 2
The session will focus on making a different type of puppet to the one made during the last session.
SESSION FOUR: Exploring shadow techniques/storyboarding
Exploring shadow work, particularly using OHP and shadow techniques to create settings to combine with puppet characters created. Most of the session will focus on character creation and story development. This will involve:
SESSION FIVE: Finalising puppet play elements ready for performance
Groups will rehearse and receive feedback from NPT tutors after which they will perform their short pieces from 4pm.
